DiRT 2 to use DirectX 11

DiRT has got to be my favorite racing sim next to GTR Evolution. Hands down the best rally and off road game ever made and miles away from just about any other game Codemasters has ever made. DiRT 2 is gearing up to be nothing less than that but the next generation and we have just learned it will also be one of the first games to utilize DirectX 11. This great news comes at a price though – unfortunately the game has been pushed back from September 09 to a late December 09 release date.
Bryan Marshall, Chief Technical Officer had this to say:
“While the console editions of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will retain their September ship date, we believe that the DirectX 11 feature set is too compelling to ignore, especially considering how much more it can add to the visual experience for PC gamers…
…As a leader in digital racing entertainment, we are staying ahead of the pack by immediately taking advantage of key new technologies such as hardware tessellation, multi-threading and Shader Model 5.0 to deliver the most realistic, immersive and exhilarating racing experiences in the business. The fusion of DirectX 11 with Codemasters’ EGO™ Engine will raise the technical bar considerably in the racing genre”
