The PlayStation 3 is the industry’s most advanced next-generation home console system, manufactured by Sony Computer Entertainment. The PS3 is the successor to Sony’s PlayStation 2 system, the runaway winner of the previous console generation competition among the GameCube, Xbox, and the PlayStation 2. Originally launching with a price tag of £399 in the UK, it is now possible to get a free PS3 with some mobile phone deals.

Sony has outfitted its newest PlayStation with a multicore IBM Cell processor, a Nvidia RSX graphics chip, and a Blu-ray drive. The system can play DVDs, Blu-ray movies, and music CDs in addition to PlayStation 3 video games. You can also use the console to play video and music files, as well as view images stored on the system hard disk or from a connected flash memory or USB device. With the Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed 80GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, you will also be able to download a variety of content as well as access on-line games and services over the Playstation Network.

In terms of games Sony may have to share such gems as Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry and the much anticipated Prototype with Microsoft, or at least for now; however the PS3 still has a number of first-party exclusives that are definitely enough to grab any true gamers attention. Titles such as; Kill Zone 2, God of War 3, infamous, White Knight Chronicles and Gran Turismo 5… to name a few are what make the PS3 a must have. On top of all that, Sony has even taken the time to make the console as quiet as possible just for your convenience with maximum heat and noise reduction achieved to the noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2!
