Blizzard Closing Down Pirate Servers

Play WoW on a Pirated server? Not for much longer. Blizzard has been cracking down on “private servers” and sending the owners a “Copyright DMCA Notice” (Pretty much close down the server or get sued). With this new turn of events many of the popular private WoW servers have been closing down over night without notice. Your favorite server could be next.
Here is a post from the popular Vioku giving their statement regarding the issue at hand.
OK, so by now.. most of you should be probably aware of what’s going on..
But for those that don’t, I’ll make it simple.. “Blizzard Entertainment” have sent us a “copyright dmca notice” with a take down request, which needs to be done within 24/hours (btw 12 hours passed already). This isn’t a joke obviously, and to protect our asses we’ve decided to take the server down and cooperate with Blizzard on this request.. Is obviously that we don’t want to go jail for a game!So here’s what we’re going to do (I won’t go into too much details): Our servers will remain closed until further notice, but is most likely that we’ll close our doors to World of Warcraft permanently.. This however, does not mean that is the end to our community and future ideas, after all.. our goal was to make Aniwow one of the best private servers by January.. remember that? Well, it might be an impossible task now that everything has turn down into us, but remember.. it’s never the end to something that received a lot of dedication (at least to my own personal rules), that being said.. there’s a second chapter coming up… no one never knows.

Yeah um im sure that because of this the people on those servers will NOT go play retail just because of the train of events currently happening. ive seen the DMCA notice and there are grammer issues but w/e… and if it is real im sure that there is a reason for it like not following through the codes of the copy rights. w/e Blizz sucks any ways.

hahaha u people sound really funny, QQ about closing pirate servers. It’s the same situation with ppl pirating normal games. If you don’t have money then u don’t play it. How simple is that? You don’t whine about Ferrari being too expensive do you? Some things are just not for everyone. As I last checked nothing is free in this world. I’m playing casual wow, working, studying and have GF and still have that 15$ for wow. First of all many people think that Blizzard gets trillions of money from WoW which is bulls*** cause they spent a lot and again a lot on keeping everything up, servers, maintanances etc. Second of all I don’t mind Blizz getting the money. They make special games which are played for years (diablo, starcraft, warcraft) and I hope they will make more games and faster. Anyway I have no idea what you people are discussing about. Blizzard have full rights to the game so stop bitchin about.

lol I went to gamestop right away to go buy my wow games. All 3 of them instantly. It sucks about the private servers but at least on the official servers everything works and you actually got to earn stuff. Like the high rate fgt players because they don’t got more than 30 minutes on the family pc.
Ah well, blizzard just got another paying customer from me. ^_^

This is excellent news. Like Almao, I work and have bills to pay but I can still afford WoW. Why should some unemployed lazy ass scum get to play for free to enjoy more or less what we are paying for (although about 70% of everything on private is broken). Well justice has been done for us.
WOTLK is their “star” (Boston Matrix) so they aren’t about to let their product slip out of their hands that easily. And because its theirs they’re going to protect it which is what they are doing by the Copyright DMCA.
Oh and they have to give Ubisoft a 90% share of their profits… so they aren’t exactly raking the cash in.

Think of this in drug terms;
10 000 people are addicted to a drug. You let them take the drug freely for a while. Then you take it away and make them pay for that drug. A vast majority will go pay for that.
That’s mainly why Blizzard used to promote the use of private servers, as a try before you buy, but once they got big enough, they could grab hold of thousands of players left stranded with no game.

My favourite server has already been closed and i dont think i will ever be playing on blizzard because i dont want to help those fucking assholes gain more money ! In my opinion blizzard shouldn’t have made the game a monthly pay game … the game should have been with another system … like if you buy the original game you could play on the original server … for some 15$ is not a large amount of money but for some like myself who doesn’t have an income …. i am 17years old by the way …. 15$ is an amount that i can’t afford to ask my parents every month beacuse i got other payments …. i am very sad because i played warcraft 2 , warcraft 3 , frozen throne and so on and i watched the games histiry so i am a very big fan … I don’t agree with blizzards decision and i am sad but i can’t be really mad on them beacuse they are the creators of the greatest games ever … i hope i will find a solution beacuse i am a very big fan of WoW … and dont be stupid and say that you thank blizzard for the dicision beacuse you don’t know how it is to live in a country that people don’t afford to pay every month 15$ for a Game … so FUCK YOU ALL that do not understand me and GO TO HELL !!!

Blizzard sucks, also that fuckin gay called almao and all the ppl that think they are better beacuse they play WOW in the original server they all are GENTE DE MIERDA. Blizzard was one of the best game developer in the world but they show with this stupid action that they are just another fuckin comapny that cares just about the money, they dont care about the feeling (ppl who is inteligent will understand what I mean, not almao because he doesn’t think). They earn more that $150000000 each bloody month and they want more, not everyone can pay $15 beacuse not everyone likes to suck dick we are better than that!!! It’s thanks to Private Servers that I began playing Wow, and then I moved on Retail.I still play on Private servers sometimes,so I hope that the Blizzard won’t really close them. Actually, I’m not sure it will be good for them to close Private servers for two reasons: 1) The people that play ONLY in a private server will never move on retail. 2) Sometimes, the people that play on private servers, move on Retail because they have enough of bugs, cheats or what else…

They closed down the top servers, what’s the big deal with that there are other private servers right? I’ll tell you what’s wrong with that, the top servers were great, they got to the top 10 for a reason, their constant effort to fix bugs and update constantly. The below top 30′s and other have constant disconnection, no help basically all stuck on 2.4x and have a shitty community because no one wants to play the server. So yes it was a big deal for them to take down the best servers. Use you’re head you’d rather play ranked #1 or #64? Use your head you fucking tool.

I lol’d at all the retarded comments that were written by private server players. Seriously Blizzard can’t “die from cancer” it’s not a giant monster or something. They made the game, many people worked long days to produce what you are playing all the time and it’s hardly fair just to steal the game that they made. Sure they make tons of money but there are a lot of people working there plus they have to give a share of the money to publishers and distributers it’s not like everyone working for Blizzard is a millionare. And finally all the servers are going to be closed down one by one so either buy the game or gtfo.

Ok we did the math last night. Even if blizzard lied and has only 1 million which is one tenth of what they claim. That’s 15 million a month at 14.99 a month. That’s roughly 180 million a year. Just off the subscription even if every one of those never got the wotlk expansion. Which runs about 30 bucks right there. And most will. Not to mention the burning crusade expansion which ran about 30 bucks also. Figure best case scenario 1/10 of that number buys the cheapest value the warchest at 45.00 at a discount rate. Which is just for shit’s and giggles i’ll say 100,000 people do. That’s another 45 million right there. Bringing the total To roughly a quarter billion dollars. 245 million a year. And that’s putting absolutely everything at roughly 1/10 what they claim. Now even if they had to pay 90% which i seriously doubt cause having helped a friend with copyrights to a table top gaming that was potentially going to be marketed to either steve jackson or tsr before her death you don’t get reemed a new one to the tune of 90% profit margin if you plan on not going bankrupt. But jsut for arguements sake let’s say they do have to pay 90% and were complete freaking morons on contract negotiations.

Roughly 200 bucks a year from every one of thier subsrcibers. Now i’m a broke man yes. And lazy yes. But I worked for 16 years of my life so far. And 200 bucks might be chump change to mom and pops money bags. But 200 bucks is a light bill. Fifteen bucks is grocery money in the real world. Fifteen bucks is gas money to work. And that’s if you get free net. Now figure in net and the 15.00 subscription becuase let’s face it you can’t play on dial up unless you want crap connection. So let’s go bargain basement discount high speed. 60 bucks a month for high speed. That’s 75.00 a month for net and one damn game. Yeah they can’t be held responsible for your net bill you’re a grown adult. But it’s neccessary to play wow. So you have no choice but to figure that in also like it or not. And 75.00 a month is not laughable.
Not when you are low income or even middle class. That’s 2 tanks of gas on an average vehicle. That’s 1/2 a week’s food or a weeks food for a fat man. Or even skinny man at that rate. So no offense oh hell take offense. Blow me.

If the private server has modified the game content in any way or has custom content, its not the same game, not the same game… not against the DMCA terms. I would not play on the official servers, not even if THEYwould pay me 15$. While an a private server of your choice, u made the choice having everything in mind(most important: rates), on the official u actually pay to waste your time, much more than on the private server. New expansion or not, wow is getting old and they feel it. This feels like an attempt to get some players to fill in for the ones who left.
