Shin Megami Tensei : Imagine BETA

So the Beta went live a few days ago, and you’re probably wondering what the game looks like, especially those of you who are Persona and Digital Devil Saga Fans.As luck would have it i was one of few to get to file front fast enough for their 200 thousand beta key client send outs and when I logged on, I was not only hit with complete disgust but a breath of fresh air.

but first, some screen shots

So as you can see, My character is looking Devilish and I’ve ran into a man with an eye patch. Also you’ve seen your first devil, and while most of the devils are from the series itself, they def have a cool online avatar look to them, not just the ps2 scale down models. So you’re probably wondering why I was disgusted and relieved at the same time, and it’s a few simple things that factor into it:

One, The Game is a point and click MMO. While I know some people take their Diablo 2′ing very serious and can point and click their way out of a pool of needles,  I cannot play for five minutes with nothing but clicking, I’ve been spoiled with full control of my characters actions over the years.

Two, The game supports a slow paced walk, slow paced grind, and slow paced fighting style. I’ve played Final Fantasy 11and i know what a real slow pace is like, and still this mmo is quicker : Looks directly at FF11′s game designers with furious anger: which in this case is not directly a bad thing because the combat is ass kicking which leads me to ..

Three! The Combat, this has been the first mmo I’ve played that features it’s own Counter/ Guard System, that can be activated at which ever time after a melee/ranged combo to protect yourself from the enemy. Not only that, but features a more action/animated style for the hotkey moves. Your character will animate a guard stance, he will animate an AOE attack, and even a guard breaking attack has a sweet anime dash animation to it.

Four, The style of the game itself, the look, it’s definitely to the Digital Devil Saga style, and that being one of my favorite art styles for any game, it definitely does a great job and pulls it off very well.

One of the things that definitely stand out is the Music. Fans of the games will recognize the fast tempo beats but won’t recognize anything from the prior devil saga games. The game also supports a battle theme, which is a mixture of guitar and drum and bass, no complains here,  Loved that part of the game the most.

well, that completes it for now, I’ll keep you guys updated, anything you’d like to know just ask.
